Who are the homeless at Atlantic City Rescue Mission?

Approximately 73% are men, 19% are women, and 8% are mothers with children. They range in age from newborns to the elderly. Some are well-educated, while others have little or no education. Up to 65% of the homeless at the Mission have some degree of mental illness. Many have substance abuse issues. Most are without employment, although some have jobs that pay very low income.

Most importantly, they are individuals in need of help. Each person is unique, and each one’s path to homelessness is different. The one thing they have in common is that they received compassionate help at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. Here are some of their testimonies.

"If it wasn't for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission me and my family probably still wouldn't have a place to live. If it wasn't for the donors supporting the Mission, and the staff I wouldn't be where I'm at now." Read her story

He abused me psychologically, but he physically abused our son. I had to protect my little boy. Bringing my son to a shelter was a really scary thought, but it's been great. The Atlantic City Rescue Mission's counselors were really supportive, and we were safe."

"Because of my son's illness, I lost my job and our home. I went to church one Sunday, and the people there listened to my situation and brought me to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. I would love to meet all the people that give to the Mission. Even though I don't know them, every time I get some clothing or other help, I thank God for them." Read her story
