Meals and Shelter

Emergency food, shelter, and clothing

An average of 647 meals are served to hungry people in the Mission's dining hall every day. Breakfast and dinner are available to anyone in need. Lunch is served to those enrolled in one of the Mission's programs. Approximately 194 men, 39 women, and 25 moms and children receive safe shelter at the Mission each night.

Last year, nearly 236,440 meals were provided in the dining hall and 45,414 meals were given out through food baskets. A total of 94,471 beds were filled in 2007 with people needing a place to sleep. Statistics are available for the last ten years.

The plight of the poor in our community has never been greater. Government program cutbacks and a soft economy have contributed to more people needing help. For an increasing number of them, the Mission is their last and only hope.

Since 1964 the Mission has helped the homeless and working poor in a five county area of southern New Jersey. Our programs touch many lives and in a typical year, more than 3,000 men, women, and mothers with children are assisted. Most have difficulty being self-sufficient because of drug or alcohol abuse, domestic violence, loss of employment, lack of job skills or mental health issues.

The Mission provides for their immediate physical needs through meals, safe shelter, and clothing. Our goal, however, is to guide them to a productive life through practical programs and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

The Mission is the largest provider of services for the homeless in southern New Jersey with 320 shelter beds. While a deep commitment to God sets us apart in how we provide services, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, religion, sex, handicap, or national origin.
